Minutes of the 2000 AGM
The minutes of the 2000 AGM, as published
on the web, were accepted.
Matters Arising
None.
Officers' Reports
Captain
David Yule reported that we had another enjoyable season, winning 5 games,
and losing 10 (with 3 games cancelled). The captain also noted that the
win/loss ratio while he was playing (3 wins out of 9 = 33%) was exactly
the same as while he wasn't playing (2 wins out of 6 = 33%), which made
him realise how much his captaincy affected the performance of the whole
team!
Carl Glasse topped the run-scoring, with 156 runs (at 26), while Jon
Gowers had the best average (60 runs at 30). The bowlers were led by Andy
Yule with 14 wickets, while Paul Gough & David Parker both managed
13. The 'strike' bowling partnership of David Fish & David Yule took
the art of not taking wickets to a new level, both averaging 1 wicket every
40 balls, about half the rate of everyone else (David Yule didn't take
his first wicket until 12th July)!
The captain finished by saying that while he enjoyed the year, the pressures
of captaincy had forced him to take a position in Philips over 6000 miles
away (in Taiwan), so would be standing down.
Treasurer
Andy Yule reported a profit of £105.03 for the year. The finances
were presented in unprecedented detail, and are available
on the web.Given that the finances were in a much more healthy state
than some of the kit, he suggested we should buy some more bats/pads this
year.
Team Secretary
Martin Mee has left PRL. On his behalf, David Yule mentioned that there
were 25 people who played for us last year, and in general availability
was good. There was one game with only 9 players, and a few with 10, but
we raised a full team on most occasions.
Election of Officers
The following officers were proposed:
President: Bernie Wright (proposed: Andy Yule seconded: David Yule)
Captain: Rob Davies (proposed: Andy Yule seconded: David Yule)
Vice Captain: David Fish (proposed: Andy Yule seconded: David Yule)
Team Secretary: Bernie Hunt (proposed: Andy Yule seconded: Rob Davies)
Secretary: Carl Glasse (proposed: Andy Yule seconded: David Yule)
Treasurer: Andy Yule (proposed: David Yule seconded: David Parker)
Also, as both Bernie Hunt and Bhavin Khatri were willing to do the
job of team secretary (and the idea of a US style election fiasco was too
much for us), Jon Gowers proposed the post:
Assistant Team Secretary: Bhavin Khatri (proposed: David Yule seconded:
Rob Davies)
Everyone was elected unopposed.
Any Other Business
Maintenance of the pitch. Bernie Wright has got the kit required
to patch the current wicket, and will look into doing this. It was noted
that the wicket itself was in good condition, but some of the run-up areas
were a problem.
Pre-season indoor nets. Rob Davies has spoken to Oakwood
Sports Centre, and suggested 1.30pm on Sunday afternoons from the first
Sunday in February. About 8 people present said they were interested in
attending, so Rob will book this.
Committee responsibilities. Andy Yule noted that the rôles
of the officers of the club were not defined anywhere. He drafted a document
(available on the web) which outlines the responsibilities, and invited
people to suggest additions/changes.
Visibility. It was agreed that no effort would be made
to get sight-screens at PRL. However, it was noted that the experiment of
using a white ball for the last game of the season was a success, and should
be continued for matches in August next year.
Sports & Social Club AGM. The Club requires 2
people to attend the S&SC AGM, and 1 to give a report. Provisionally
the Captain & Secretary (Rob Davies & Carl Glasse) agreed
to attend.
Overseas Players. Several members of the club noted that
the outgoing captain was expecting to visit PRL from Taipei for business
several times during the year. It was agreed that he should try to organise
these visits during the cricket season, and to include a Wednesday evening!
Match Fees. It was agreed that match fees would remain at £1.50 per match (plus 50p to cover food at home fixtures).
The meeting closed at 1:40pm.
