A very gloomy evening, so we played with a white ball despite the 5pm start. Crawley BC presented us with a number of cheap wickets (the first two was dolly catches to the two fielders they had kindly leant us), but Adrian Peckover (a long-standing opponent) batted with great sense, taking plenty of quick singles whilst getting in, before opening up in the final overs. Consequently they posted a strong target (given the slow outfield) despite a reasonable performance by us in the field. Our innings started with a dreadful collapse, largely due to Naveed (their ex-Pakistani Police CC opener) who bowled 4-2-2-2, but Jon in particular was less than impressed by the umpiring as well. However Paul and Mark led a spirited recovery from 24-5 at the halfway stage to get Crawley BC slightly nervous as the final overs approached (and amazingly the sun came out). Sadly they had too much to do and we ended 11 runs short.
