Notes

With the return of Terrence and Angus we fielded one of stronger sides, but L&G have always had a strong team and tonight was no exception. Their batsmen all looked very impressive and hit some good looking shots from the off, but none of our bowlers were put off and despite a few drops, we kept taking wickets. The catch Angus took on the boundary without having to move a single step demonstrated both the strength and lack of discrimination of their stroke play. With Mark, who had a fine game behind the stumps, chivvying us along our fielding seemed to be as good as it gets. The result was their scoring never really took off and they were nearly bowled out. Their performance in the field followed a similar pattern, with their bowlers trying too hard for pace and bounce despite clearly being more talented than those of us who batted (barring Jon!). The result was a staggering total of 34 extras (mostly byes) with little blame attributable to their keeper. Just as strange was their deliberate and persistent setting of a 5-4 legside field to Andy, who never even attempted a legside shot, as he could have a single on the offside pretty much whenever he wanted. The result was that we cruised to the target with very few alarms.
