Minutes of the 1998 AGM of the PRL Cricket Club

The meeting was held at 1pm on Monday 16th February at PRL in room C208.

Minutes of the 1997 AGM

The minutes of the 1997 AGM, as published on the web, were accepted.

Matters Arising

David Parker reported that the sightscreen working party had not met.

Officers' Reports

Captain

Paul Gough was unavailable, so gave a written report which Andy Yule read out. He noted that the statistics for the season (Played 14 Won 5 Lost 9) don't reflect what a good season it was.

Jon Gowers yet again topped the batting averages, with Graham Rowbottom (who featured strongly in the bowling statistics as well) second; Andy Yule topped the bowling averages with 11 wickets. The win of the season was against Crawley NALGO, where we won off the last ball of the match to avenge a heave defeat earlier in the season.

Paul thanked Bernie Wright for his continued support, and Dave Cooper and Shirley for scoring for us all season.

Secretary

David Yule reported that he had started arranging the fixtures for 1998. He proposed to keep a very similar fixture list to last season. The only possible new opponents who were mentioned were Titan Travel (who now occupy the North site), and Watson (from Reigate, suggested by David Walker).

Bernie Wright had offered the use of the nets at Horley, so nets will start on the 8th April this year, with the first fixture on the 6th May. The season will run to 26th August.

There was some enthusiasm for indoor nets again this year, so that will be investigated.

Treasurer

In Rob Davies' absence, David Yule reported that we made a profit last year of c.£100. We may need to buy a new bat next season, and also patch up the wicket. It was noted that we have consistently made a profit in the last few years, which will be useful when we need to replace the cricket wicket.

Election of Officers

David Walker proposed, and Malcolm Christmas seconded, the following officers:
  • President: Bernie Wright
  • Captain: Andy Yule
  • Vice Captain: David Yule
  • Team Secretary: Jon Gowers
  • Fixtures Secretary: Rob Davies
  • Tresurer: David Parker

    • The positions of President, Captain, Vice Captain and Treasurer were elected unoposed. Rob and Jon will be approached about taking on the other two roles.

    Any Other Business

    It was agreed that David Yule would represent the Cricket club at the Sports and Social Club AGM (on Thursday 19th Feb).

    Maintenance of the pitch was raised. Andy Yule said that he would contact Steve Crowe about the rolling of the outfield, whether the grass could be cut earlier than Wednesday, and whether the little fence in front of the river could be improved.

    It was proposed that some training of the team would be useful. It was noted that Micha Verhagen may be willing to continue the fielding practice sessions from last season, and Rob Davies may know someone at Horley who was interested in helping.

    The meeting closed at 1:40pm.
