Minutes of the 1996 AGM

David Yule gave a brief summary of the key points of the minutes of the previous year's AGM. The minutes were accepted.

Matters Arising

None.

Officers' Reports

Captain

Paul Gough remarked on our 'record breaking' year of 1996, in which we lost all 15 matches (with another 5 matches cancelled)! Despite this record, Paul felt that everyone enoyed the games. Our batting was generally strong, with regular scores of over 100; Jon Gowers topped the batting averages with an impressive 257 runs at 36, and was involved in a rare century partnership with David Parker.

The bowling was not so strong with Paul Gough taking most wickets with 8 at 19.75; Mick Martin achieved an average of 6.67, but only bowled 9 overs.

Paul thanked Dave Cooper for producing the best outfield for several seasons, Shirley Akehurst for scoring and handling the new technology (scoring on a laptop), Bernie Wright for continued support, and Andy Yule for keeping the seasons statistics up to date.

Secretary

David Yule noted that, due to an extended stay in Eindhoven, he had asked his brother to help with the arranging of 1997 fixtures. Andy reported that we would offer Crawley Falcons the first fixture of the season (and offer Monotype a later date). It was agreed that the Turners Hill fixture should be moved into the strawberry season. Possible new fixtures are against 'Eurobell', and 'Titan Travel' (who are taking over the North Site).

It was noted that the state of the cricket pitch should be watched at the start of the season, as it is not currently known how well the new gardeners will look after it.

Treasurer

In Rob Davies' abscence, Andy Yule reported that we made a profit last year of £95.30. We intend to buy some new kit with this, in particular Thigh Pads.

Team Secretary

David Walker reported that in the early part of the season there were plenty of players to select from. As the season went on, it became more difficult to raise a full team, but that in nearly all the matches we had a full team.

Election of Officers

Bernie Wright agreed to remain in the role of President.

Jon Gowers proposed that the current Captain, Vice-Captain, Secretary and Treasurer should be reelected. This was seconded by David Parker, and they were elected unopposed.

David Walker asked to stand down from the committee, having done the Team Secretary job for 4 years. David Yule proposed (seconded by Andy Yule) Jon Gowers to replace him, and he was elected unopposed.

Therefore the officers for 1997 are:

  • President: Bernie Wright
  • Captain: Paul Gough
  • Vice Captain: Andy Yule
  • Team Secretary: Jon Gowers
  • Secretary: David Yule
  • Tresurer: Rob Davies
  • Any Other Business

It was agreed that Jon Gowers and Jeff Chapman would represent the Cricket club at the Sports and Social Club AGM (on Wednesday 19th Feb).

The issue of sightscreens was raised, as the current ones have been vandalised. It was suggested that we should experiment with white cricket balls next season. In addition, David Parker and Jeff Chapman agreed to organise a working party to look at the options.

It was noted that the PRL Softball team will be using the ground every Thursday this season, which may cause wear on the outfield.

It was agreed that, if possible, indoor nets should be organised before the start of the season. David Yule will look into the possible options.

    The meeting closed at 2:00pm.
